Research interests

Simon's current research interest is the history of jewellery and metalwork in relation to the culture of modernism. His book Jewellery in the Age of Modernism 1918-1940: Adornment and beyond is published by Bloomsbury (2019).

Scholarly biography

Simon has been teaching and researching in UK Further and Higher Education for over 30 years, specialising in teaching design history and theory to practice-based students of art, architecture and design. During this time Simon has worked as a part-time and full-time lecturer, senior lecturer, course leader, director of studies and associate dean as well as undertaking duties as an external examiner. He also has many years' experience of supporting international students and has one PhD completion as a lead supervisor.

Simon completed his PhD by Publication at the University of Brighton with a thesis entitled "Jewellery, Silver and the Applied and Decorative Arts in the Culture of Modernism, 1918-1940".
