Research interests

My research interests include the resilience of student nurses when supporting patients recieving palliative and end of life care, the impact of pre registration education strategies to support the management of palliative and end of life care. Experiences of transitioning from a clinical role into an academic post. Palliative and end of life care, including the benefit of ACP and barriers such as poor communication that prevent effective ACP. Communication strategies to support ACP and the role of enhanced communication training for undergraduate student nurses. Self care and resilience in healthcare workers post covid 19, breaking bad news and the support of carers.

Approach to teaching

At the University of Brighton I am course leader for PGDip Specialist community practioner, this is a post registration course for community nurses which leads to DN (SPQ) annotation on the NMC if attained and includes V300 independent prescribing.

My teaching interests are: pallitive and end of life care, resilience, mental health awareness, therapeutic engagement, independent prescribing, community nursing, inclusive and social approaches to teaching and learning.and the use of low fidelity simulations in education
