Personal profile
Research interests
My PhD involved measuring the effects of a polyphenol-rich breakfast on gluco-regulation, cognitive performance, energy expenditure, mood, and satiety; measured using indirect calorimetry, visual analogue scales, and computerised tests; in adults, and in adolescents attending local schools. I have worked extensively within Public Health delivering health promotion interventions to a wide range of audiences across different settings.
Supervisory Interests
I have recently completed my doctoral supervisory training. I would be interested to supervise students with an interest in projects around public health.
Scholarly biography
I am a Public Health Nutritionist working in Public Health research. I studied for my BSc in Nutrition at Oxford Brookes University where I stayed and worked on metabolic studies within the Functional Food Centre (now the Centre for Nutrition and Health). I undertook my PhD which was entitled "The development of a functional food breakfast and its effects on gluco-regulation, cognitive performance, mood, and satiety in adolescents".
Following my PhD I worked in the Health Behaviours team at the University of Oxford across projects to inform public health policies around obesity, smoking and food positioning in supermarkets.
When I came to Brighton in 2021, I delivered a public health intervention to support adults with multiple and complex needs to improve their health and activity levels. Alongside this I frequently lectured across the nutrition and public health modules at the University of Brighton, as well as on specialist subjects around enabling behaviour change.
