Research interests
The focus of my research revolves around investigating the gendered inferential space that exists between primary narrative texts and children in the lower key stage 2 (LKS2) age group. The objective of my study is to understand the intricate process of children's meaning-making when engaging with prescribed texts. This investigation takes into account various contributing factors, for example, the nature of the text itself (whether it is a classic, contemporary, or its demographic landscape), the role of teachers (including their pedagogy and subject knowledge), the influence of peers (including the extent and nature of dialogic elements within the classroom and interactions outside of formal learning time), the impact of parents (in terms of the reading culture at home). I am particularly interested in the use of innovative research methods that engage children and have the potential to capture their genuine perspectives effectively.
