I am a SCDTP-funded postgraduate student exploring the roles and potentials of visual methods for exploring home care and the unacknowledged labour of home care workers. As inherently private and intimate spaces, providing and receiving adult social care at home goes unseen by the wider public.
With COVID-19 changing the ways we see illness, vulnerability, and care more broadly, the potentials of photography for visibilising these spaces and the relationships within them is promising. I am particularly interested in feminist care ethics for rethinking home care, as well as the importance of visualising the objects and materialities of home care, which I began to tease out in a previous photographic project, Duty of Care.
