Personal profile

Scholarly biography

I am a research student at the Brighton Business School since 2018. Previously, I have completed my M.Sc. at Bournemouth University in "Tourism Management and Planning" (with distinction). My undergraduate studies took place at the University of Applied Sciences of Bremerhaven, where I studied "International Cruise Tourism Management".

I have worked in various Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences. Previously, I have worked as research assistant at the TU Dresden for the Tourism Faculty. Furthermore, I have worked at the University of Applied Sciences in Worms, also as a research assistant. Here, I also significantly enhanced my teaching skills. Currently, I work at the University of Applied Sciences Karlsruhe as Project Coordinator for the International Program.

Research interests

I am particularly interested in the cruise tourism industry and human resources. Working and living on board a cruise ship is very challenging, as I have experienced myself. I have worked on an ocean going vessel as well as a river cruise ship. Therefore, I am specifically interested in exploring the life and work of employees on board cruise ships. A cruise ship can be compared to a total institution, so an institution which is, to some extent, closed off from the rest of the world. Researching work and life in such an institution is fascinating. Especially the impact of such total institutions on employees is my key interest. This is also reflected in my PhD research: "Emotional labour in a 'total institution' - front desk workers on board cruise ships".
