I am a senior lecturer in Civil Engineering at the School of Architecture, Technology and Engineering. My expertise lies in the fields of transportation and transport externalities. I published many peer-reviewed articles on topics such as transport modelling, transport impact on environment and health, transport and land-use interaction, transport and energy efficiency, fleet modelling and air quality modelling. I also have considerable industrial experience in the fields of transportation planning, modelling and engineering. I worked on research projects such as Persuasive Trip Advisor for Reducing CO2 consumption (EU FP7-ICT), Emission Inventory Compilation (EPA, Ireland), and Carbon Neutrality (EPA, Ireland). In the industry, I worked on the Transport Modelling Framework and Public Transport Framework of the National Transport Authority, Ireland, Bus Rapid Transit and Bus Network Restructuring projects of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority, Bangladesh.

My research focuses on transportation networks and systems design, with a strong emphasis on connectivity and its role in shaping sustainable and efficient urban environments. I investigate smart mobility and future transport solutions, including fleet modernisation through energy-efficient, connected, and autonomous vehicles. I am particularly interested in transport impact modelling—particularly air quality (AQ), greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and noise—applying advanced traffic and transport models, enhanced by emerging data sources, to evaluate network performance, policy interventions, and infrastructure decisions. Through this work, I assess the wider impacts of transport systems on the environment, climate change, and public health, supporting evidence-based planning for more resilient and sustainable communities.

I find the connections between teaching with industry and research are very important to provide students with diverse perspectives. I often challenge students with examples from my industrial and research experience. Working with different transport models under the Transport Modelling Framework of the National Transport Authority in Ireland is useful for that. Also, sharing my experience from transport engineering and planning activities that I undertook in Bangladesh while working on the District Town Infrastructure project, Bridge feasibility project, and the Bus Rapid Transit project is also useful for knowledge exchange. Experience of working as a researcher on many projects provided me with excellent experience to deal with the topics of sustainable and advanced transportation systems. I am also a recognised reviewer of international journals such as Transport Research Part D, Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, Atmospheric Environment, and International Journal of Sustainable Transportation. Reviewing articles is an excellent activity that stimulates me to harness new knowledge and makes me aware of errors that I am interested in sharing with students.

My research bridges analytical rigour with practical applications to address pressing issues in smart mobility, future transportation systems, and sustainability. I focus on advancing innovative solutions through modelling and simulation of system design and policy impact assessment, including energy-efficient fleets, autonomous vehicles, and mobility services. Additionally, I examine the broader implications of transportation on climate change, public health, and urban development.
