Personal profile
Scholarly biography
I am a lecturer in Civil Engineering at the School of Architecture, Technology and Engineering. Before joining the University of Brighton, I worked as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership Associate at Queen’s University Belfast, UK. I served as a postdoctoral researcher at Aarhus University in Denmark and Incheon National University in South Korea. I also spent over four years as an assistant professor at the University of Asia Pacific in Bangladesh. I also worked as a researcher at the Scientific and Technical Centre for Building (CSTB) in France.
I completed my PhD at the University of Pau and Pays de l'Adour in France, my MSc at Politecnico di Milano in Italy, and my BSc at the University of Asia Pacific in Bangladesh. My PhD dissertation focused on the effects of mechanical loading (both biaxial and uniaxial) and the types of cement used on the fire-spalling behaviour of concrete. My PhD thesis received “PhD Student Awards 2018 – Honorable Mention” in the American Concrete Institute (ACI)-Italy Chapter.
My master's thesis investigated the influence of pore pressure on the fracture behaviour of high-performance concrete made with and without polypropylene fibres at elevated temperatures. My B.Sc. thesis mainly focused on utilising recycled concrete blocks as fine aggregate.
Membership:
- Member, Institute of Concrete Technology

Research interests
My research focuses on the mechanical, durability, and microstructure properties of decarbonising cement and concrete, alkali-activated materials, CO2-cured cement composites, calcined clay cement composites, strengthening mechanisms of cement-based materials, low-carbon concrete, sustainable fibre-reinforced concrete, natural fibres, recycled and waste materials, thermal and mechanical properties of mortar and concrete after exposure to elevated temperatures, concrete structures in fire.
I published over 70 peer-reviewed journals, including Cement and Concrete Composites, Construction and Building Materials, Journal of Building Engineering, Structures, Composite Structures, Materials and Structures, Sustainable Materials and Technologies, Chemical Engineering Journal, Science of the Total Environment, Chemosphere, Environmental Science and Pollution Research, Journal of Cleaner Production. In addition, more than 30 peer-reviewed conference proceedings were presented worldwide (USA, UK, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, Italy, France, Portugal, South Korea, Malaysia, China, Indonesia, India, and Bangladesh).
Supervisory Interests
I would be keen to supervise research topics on alkali-activated materials, CO2-cured cement composites, calcined clay cement composites, strengthening mechanisms of cement-based materials, fibre-reinforced concrete, pervious concrete, low-carbon concrete, thermo-mechanical and durability properties of cement-based materials and alkali-activated materials after exposure to elevated temperatures.
