Bio

Martin Andersen is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton, as well as being an art director, designer, photographer and film director. Martin has directed films for Channel 4, Clipper Tea, DDB, Discovery Channel, Colenso BBDO, ITV, Nationwide, P&O Ferries and recently directed the film for JK Rowling’s ‘Pottermore’ and music videos for the Breeders, Lush, Iceage and Piroshka among others.

He resides in South London where he runs his creative studio Andersen M. His film work has won many international awards and both his design and photography has been exhibited internationally. Martin also teaches at Central Saint Martins, School of Fashion; Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts.

Achievements

Winner of 20 International Awards, including 2 Gold Lions at Cannes 2010 and 3 CLIO’s for the stop-frame animation ‘Going West’ and 1st prize in the Young Director Award by CFP-E / Shoots in 2010.

• 26 International exhibitions in countries such as China, France, Holland, Japan, Mexico, UK and USA. 

• Directed films for Channel 4, Clipper Tea, DDB, Discovery Channel, Colenso BBDO, ITV, Nationwide, P&O Ferries.

• More than 2 million views on YouTube for the stop-frame animation ‘Going West’.

• Directed the film for JK Rowling’s ‘Pottermore’. The campaign was prior to the announcement the 4th most subscribed YouTube channel of all time. 5.4 million views in the first 5 days together with global news coverage on ITV, ABC, CNN and leading European news channels. The film was included on the ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2’ (Blu-ray + DVD) which sold more than 11.2 million in the 1st year. The bestselling DVD of 2011.

• Directed stop frame animations for the film ‘Innocence of Memories’ about Nobel prize-winner Orhan Pamuk.

• Designed the book cover for ‘The Miniaturist’ by Jessie Burton, which sold more than 1 million copies in 34 countries. (Waterstones “Book of the Year” winner and Specsavers National Book Awards: Book of the Year).
