Personal profile
Research interests
Having worked in widening participation outreach in both further education and higher education and in the Disability and Dyslexia Team at the university, I have a keen interest in widening access to HE as well as student voice and student engagement. I have created and delivered talks, activities and mentoring programmes in schools and colleges and worked with academic staff and student ambassadors across the university to develop subject taster activities.
I joined the Learning and Teaching Hub in 2020 as a Lecturer and have supported strategic initiatives such as the Inclusive Practice Partnerships (IPP) Scheme and the Digital Learning Partnership Project where I worked with a student partner to create and produce podcast episodes about transition to university. I am a course tutor on the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice and a mentor on our Professional Recognition and Development (PRD) Scheme and I am a mentor to students as part of Identity Match Mentoring. I co-edit the Talking about Teaching blog with a colleague in the Digital Learning Team and I host the Talking about Teaching podcast series. As the Learning and Teaching Partner for the School of Art and Media and School of Sport and Health Sciences, I work closely with the Learning and Teaching Leads in the School and provide workshops and guidance for academic staff. I have previously co-ordinated the staff race awareness speaker series and liaised with internal and external speakers from a variety of academic and industry backgrounds to provide talks. I am keen to further my research on humanising and compassionate pedagogies as well as transition to university and student experience. I have presented at the National Education Opportunities Network (NEON) and retain close links to the widening participation outreach team and have co-produced a toolkit on developing academic excellence taster activities for college students. I have also presented at our Education and Student Experience Conference and the Professional Services Conference.
