Scholarly biography

I studied German and German literature at the University of East Anglia, before completing an MA in Women's Studies in 1995 and an MSc in Information Science at City University in 1997. I worked as a researcher from 1997 to 2000, when I was appointed as a lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University, teaching information and communciations. I joined the University of Brighton in 2001 to teach information and media studies, becoming a Course Leader in 2003, and Head of Division in 2007. In 2009, I joined the Centre for Learning and Teaching to run the PGCert in Learning and Teaching in HE; I became Professional Programmes Lead in 2013 and Assistant Head in 2018.

I currently lead on the initial and continuing professional development provision for academic staff across the University.

Research interests

My previous research was in the field of library and information science, and I specialised in evaluation research and research into public libraries. Since joining the Centre for Learning and Teaching, I have focused my research interests in assessment and feedback in Higher Education.
