 Research interests include 

Playwriting 

I am interested in playwriting practice as research, autoethnographic plays, co writing,  political theatre,  documentary and verbatim plays. I have used photography, interviews and the surreal as part of my practice. 

I have written six plays, using personal experience, political events and visual materials.  I won  The  Royal Court Young Writers' Festival  and gained a commsision at Royal Court Theatre, I was commissioned and directed my own short play at  Soho Theatre, and had two commissions at  Chelsea Centre Theatre,  and on regional and national tours.  I won an inaugural playwriting award at New York University.    I had a residency at National Theatre Studio. I received Arts Council funding for mentoring.

I set up a Theatre company, Wildspark Theatre with  writer Josie Melia.  I received Arts Council Reseach and Development a funding aand Arts Council Production Funding for a play The Bombing of the Grand Hotel.  We collaborated as writers and with  choreographer, sound designer, set designer and employed 16 people.

The play was produced at  Cockpit Theatre and the Warren as part of Brighton Festival Fringe. 

My MA dissertation explored working class women's autobiography (MA dissertation and I worked for many years for community publishers Queenspark Books, runnning writing groups for local working writers, publishing pamphlets of work and organising open mic events. 

 I was University of Brighton lead  for a Leonardo  European Playwrights Exchange,  involving Amsterdam, Istanbul and Bucharest, and hosted an event for playwright organisations from these countries at University of Brighton 

Screenwriting practice 

I was selected by BBC TV on the drama series programme and was commissioned to write an episode of TV drama series Down To Earth. I later wrote for Carlton TV's Crossroads. 

As a script editor,  I have worked on projects with Creative England, and have been involved in feature film projects from the Netherlands, Finland, and Estonia  as well as the UK.

I am a member of the Screenwriters Research Network and am particularly interested  screenplays by women,  films for young people, and writing the short film. I currently have an award by Digital Learning Partners Initiative to develop filmmaking skills with MA and undergraduate screenwriters.

I am a member of the Centre for Arts and Wellbeing,  Performance and Community and am a member of  the Centre for   Memory, History, and Narrative.

My passion in teaching is to create safe, supportive  learning spaces for students to develop their unique voices in script writing, learning from peers as well as from tutors, and supporting an understanding of where these voices fit within a  wider culture. 

As a creative writer,  I have collaborated  on  a range of projects  within the wider community,  such as a poetry and photography project  for Midsussex Council about Rail travel,  with an animator on animated film project  in schools  for children with special educational needs,  a writing and performance project with visually imparired students at William Moon Lodge,  a radio drama project with a radio producer and community radio organisation CROW with disabled young people, and a writing and publication project  Newhaven school and Library.
