Scholarly biography

 

I studied Geography at the University of Aberystwyth before going to the University of Bristol where I completed a masters, then a PhD examining at national identify and nation-building in Quebec.   

From 2003-13 I worked at the University of Southampton, mainly for the Higher Education Academy Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies where I organised and managed UK-wide educational development activities.

I joined the Centre for Learning and Teaching in 2013. I am currently Course Coordinator for the PGCert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education which is taken by most early career teaching staff. I also design and deliver workshops for colleagues undertaking Fellowships of the Higher Education Academy.   

I am an active researcher and have published work on identity in Quebec, disciplinary academic identities, interdisciplinary teaching and learning, teaching quality regimes and student voice in higher education.

Research interests

My research interests include student voice, interdisciplinary teaching and learning, the professionalisation of teaching and learning in higher education.

Supervisory Interests

I would be interested in supervising doctorates with a higher education focus, especially concerning academic identity, student voice, disciplinary identity and teaching and learning policy.
