Research interests

Jim comes to BBS (Brighton Business School) from a career as a management consultant, researcher, coach and trainer.  Jim has supported public and third-sector organisations and SMEs with performance evaluation, organisational development, and policy and practice studies. He also has entrepreneurial experience having jointly founded a charitable company and coached managers and social entrepreneurs. 

Jim has several research interests including change processes in clientele and organisations; trust, collaboration and innovation; and public sector management.  He has a number of published papers plus a published introductory textbook on social theory. 

Jim is interested in problem-based learning and teaching and is leading a new, final year undergraduate business project-based module. 'Developing Professional Practice in Business' works with 40 partners providing the opportunity for students to complete a 'live' research/development/marketing project for a client organisation, as well as develop their digital, professional profiles.  Jim has led post-graduate courses and action-learning programmes. He has also led in-house management and development programmes for companies, local authorities and housing associations, and produced open learning for the Open University.
