Personal profile

Research interests

My research is an exploration of urban activists’ narratives and experiences of space and place, the past and urban activism in contemporary Beirut. It explores the relationships of Beiruti activists to a contested past and to a contested city through their physical and temporal experiences of the city. I conducted fieldwork in Beirut. My research offers an alternative understanding of what it means for a city to be 'at peace', questioning the idea of Beirut being a 'post-conflict' or 'post-war' city through a critical analysis of urban activists' narratives. I am particularly interested in exploring the place and role of emotions in those narratives.
