Scholarly biography

Gillian is a specialist in Employment Law and Human Resources Management, bringing extensive practical experience to her teaching from her previous roles as a Human Resources Director and founding partner of a niche HR consultancy. Her teaching is grounded in real-world application, with particular expertise in areas such as redundancies, business transfers, disciplinary and grievance procedures, discrimination, as well as professional skills including networking, innovation, communication, negotiation, and influencing.

At the university, Gillian leads and contributes to Law modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, where her applied knowledge and interactive teaching style are highly valued by students.

In addition to her work in employment law, Gillian has a strong academic and practical interest in animal rights and welfare. She has developed and delivered a postgraduate module on animal rights over the past three years and has presented at national and international conferences in this field.

Gillian is also the founder of Dogs Welfare, a charitable organization registered with the Charity Commission. The charity is dedicated to improving the lives of stray dogs in regions lacking adequate animal welfare legislation. Its core mission includes raising funds to support animal shelters, and facilitating the sterilization and vaccination of stray dog populations to promote humane population control and prevent disease. Through strategic partnerships and community-based initiatives, Dogs Welfare aims to reduce the suffering of stray dogs subjected to mistreatment, neglect, and abuse.

Supervisory Interests

Gillian has experience supervising students at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels in areas related to employment law, animal rights, and human resource management. She welcomes research proposals from students working on interdisciplinary or applied projects in these domains.
