Personal profile

Research interests

My research interests stem from a strong clinical foundation in acute care, including emergency and intensive care medicine. As an advanced clinical practitioner with experience across emergency and primary care, I am passionate about innovations that enhance diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes. My focus lies in point-of-care investigations, particularly the integration of point-of-care ultrasound into clinical practice. I am also deeply interested in the evolving autonomy of healthcare roles and the transitions within healthcare systems that shape advanced practice and interprofessional collaboration.

Approach to teaching

Teaching, for me, is about creating experiences that are practical, engaging, and meaningful. I believe learners thrive when they are actively involved in the process, so my approach emphasises hands-on learning and active participation. Rather than relying solely on lectures, I aim to incorporate problem-based learning to encourage critical thinking and real-world application. By working through problem based scenarios, learners can explore complex issues, make decisions, and reflect on their clinical reasoning skills in a safe environment. Simulations and workshops play a key role in this, offering safe, immersive environments where learners can apply knowledge, experiment, and build confidence. These methods not only develop technical skills but also foster multiprofessional collaboration, adaptability, and reflective practice.

Ultimately, my goal is to create a learning environment that is interactive, practical, and relevant, empowering learners to take ownership of their development and prepare for the complexities of real-world practice.

Supervisory Interests

My supervisory interests focus on advancing evidence-based practice through both systematic reviews and primary research. I am particularly passionate about synthesising existing evidence to inform clinical decision-making through systemativ reviews, while also engaging in the design of studies that generate new knowledge in areas such as point-of-care investigations, healthcare transitions, and evolving professional autonomy. Primary research is a new and evolving area for me. Clinically my specialities sit within adult nursing, advanced practice and acute care.
