Evan Johnson-Charteris

My current PhD research focuses on how local live music scenes interact with online music fandoms. Utilising Brighton & Hove as a case study, this research focuses on how online music fandoms impact the happenings of the local live music scene, exploring how scene identity goes beyond the scope of the traditional in-person live concert and into virtual realms.

My previous research topics include queer musical storytelling with the AHRC Music Hub at the University of Southampton, Mapping Immersive Media Sectors with Dr Ross Garner at Cardiff University; as well as my own MRes research project into the impact of The Great Escape Festival on Brighton & Hove's music scene in 2025.
