Eloise is an Artist and Senior Lecturer in Fashion Communication, specialising in Photography & Moving Image, in the School of Art. Her research practice is underpinned by photography and investigates transitions of space. She works both independently and collaboratively toward interactive public projects and exhibition.
Eloise has been fascinated by a shift in perception caused by focusing the eye through a lens. This lens becomes a metaphorical gesture. Her research practice has focused on examining photographic space in relation to the real, and more recently, has developed towards utilising interactive technology and 3D virtual space as an extension of conceptual possibilities represented by the photographic. Her research explores technology’s effect on human perception, contemplating our collective immersion in virtual and synthesised realities.
Since graduating with MA Photography, from the Royal College of Art in 2001, Eloise has developed her practice as an artist. She remains actively engaged in research and learning, to inform and contextualise both her teaching and art practice in the wider cultural landscape, gaining Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2015, and completing an MA Video Games Art & Design at Goldsmiths in 2018. Eloise is interested in video games technology and gamification in relation to contemporary art practice.
Projects have included augmented reality mobile prototypes exploring synergy of physical and virtual space, 2D and 3D games prototypes, photographic works evoking emotional resonance of human interaction upon place, public performance investigating visual language as tool for shaping perception, written narratives & poetry, series of animated photographic installations exploring tension between still and moving imagery.
