Personal profile

Research interests

Dr Elton specialises in Human Centred Design research.  Since 2002, he has worked as a Researcher and Senior Lecturer in Higher Education.  Over this period, his research work has focussed on:

  • Inclusive Design/Designing for an ageing population,
  • Design Education
  • Design principles and approaches
  • Cognitive Ergonomics
  • Developing safety critical systems

Whilst the areas of application differ, there is a common underlying principle that underpins all of his research work: to optimise design for human use.

To date, Dr Elton has worked with world leading research institutes, such as, the University of Cambridge and the Royal College of Art on a range of EPSRC funded grants; conducted extensive studies for governmental bodies, such as, the Department for Transport and the Health & Safety Executive; and worked with both large and small commercial organisations on focussed research projects.

Fingerprint Fingerprint is based on mining the text of the person's scientific documents to create an index of weighted terms, which defines the key subjects of each individual researcher.
