Research interests

Dr Elton specialises in Human Centred Design research.  Since 2002, he has worked as a Researcher and Senior Lecturer in Higher Education.  Over this period, his research work has focussed on:

  • Inclusive Design/Designing for an ageing population,
  • Design Education
  • Design principles and approaches
  • Cognitive Ergonomics
  • Developing safety critical systems

Whilst the areas of application differ, there is a common underlying principle that underpins all of his research work: to optimise design for human use.

To date, Dr Elton has worked with world leading research institutes, such as, the University of Cambridge and the Royal College of Art on a range of EPSRC funded grants; conducted extensive studies for governmental bodies, such as, the Department for Transport and the Health & Safety Executive; and worked with both large and small commercial organisations on focussed research projects.
