Despoina’s research interests are on management of innovation in SMEs, peer-to-peer learning, open innovation, innovation policies and action research methodologies.She is an active member of CENTRIM and her research is contributing for the last 20 years on contemporary innovation management issues in many European and international research projects
Despoina is one of the main contributors in the work of Learning Networks e.g. -Profitnet Impact Case Study- and has been working with SMEs and other organisations for at least 18 years on creating methodologies and strategies for companies to innovate and learn from each other as well as from external partner organisations (experts, academics, big companies etc.).
My primary current interest is on management of innovation, peer to pear learning, innovation policies evaluation, development and implementation; I have sustained research profiles in organisational learning, evaluation and management and work on open innovation, creative industries and SME innovation and development - My interest and work on Learning Networks links all of those.
Approach to teaching
Despoina is the course leader for the new (2021-22) Entrepreneurship (Team Enterprise and Innovation) BSc (Hons) degree. This course Inspired by the Finnish Team Academy approach, is a non-lecture-based experiential learning course suited to those who want an alternative to a traditional degree and are looking to develop and practice entrepreneurial skills.
Despoina teaches international business to undergraduates on the second year of their studies and she has been a module leader for many years. On this module students research and develop their ideas on investing in a global industry taking into account the current economic, technological, social and political environment.
She is also supervising MSc Management students for their dissertations on diverse research topics.
