Personal profile

Research interests

My research interests relate to applied microeconomics, particularly issues of labour economics, education, migration, subjective well-being,  and development.

Over the past years I have been particularly interested in wage inequality, and the role of education, compositional changes of the labour force and migration. I have investigated such issues for the UK, U.S. and Italy. Morever, my research on immigration has been based on Spanish administrative data.

As an expert of migration, I have been contributing to the Migration Observatory at the Univesity of Oxford since 2010.

In more recent years, I have conducted research to assess the determinants of successful school-to-work transition of young men and women in Africa.

My research has also paid attention to subjective well being, specifically for job satisfaction and mental health. I have recently worked on a paper analysing the effect of repeated lockdowns of Covid-19 on mental health of people in the UK.

I am currently developing a research project to assess the role of exposure to crime/conflict for school-to-work transitions of young women (and men) in developing countries.

Supervisory Interests

Cinzia's PhD supervisory interests are closely aligned with her research interest and experience, such as applied microeconomics with a focus on migration, labour market, subjective well-being and development.

Approach to teaching

My approach to teach is mainly research led. In the various economics and financial modules I teach, I always use and refer to empirical research, providing students with the opportunity to become aware of research contributions in various fields of economics, helping them to develop a critical and empirical approach in learning. Morever, I believe referring to the 'real world' is crucial, and I do this all the time discussing most recent economics and social events, and how they impact on the economics and financial world. This also includes referring to the SDG and related challanges.

Knowledge exchange

My research and consultancy engagement and contribution to knowledge are primarly in the field of government evaluation particulalry in education.  I have been leading evaluation of Randomised Controlled Trials in education in the UK. Morever, since 2013 I update annually a regional cost of living that employers uses to adjust wages to inflation.
