Research interests

PhD’s Thesis Title: “The physics of droplet impact onto suspended and surface attached metallic meshes: liquid penetration and spreading.”

The research investigates the outcome of a droplet impact onto a complex surface, characterised by different values of elasticity, roughness and porosity. Two different cases were analysed: drop impacts onto meshes attached to a solid substrate and drop impacts onto the same meshes but suspended without substrate. A purpose-built image processing algorithm was developed using MATLAB to measure the droplet initial diameter, the impact velocity and the maximum spreading area.
For the case of attached meshes, 6 different outcomes were observed and thanks to a map of regimes and two dimensionless numbers the outcome can be predicted.

Approach to teaching

During my PhD, I had various jobs such as exam invigilator, exam marking. I was also ademonstrator for a Financial Math and for Essential Skill for Bio scientist class and a part timelecturer for Automotive Instrumentation and testing laboratory sessions.
