Research interests

Catherine Ferguson is a painter, writer and curator based in London. She completed a Fine Art PhD titled Painting, Deleuze and the Art of “Surface Effects”at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2007 following an MA at Chelsea College of Art and Design and a BA Fine Art (Painting) at Manchester Polytechnic. 

 

Recent curatorial projects include The Secret Life of Stuff (incl. catalogue essay) at ArtHouse1 Gallery, Bermondsey, London (September 2018) and recent exhibitions include Drift, Thames Side Studio Gallery, London (2019),  Painting/Diagram, Diagram/Painting(solo) at Studio1 Gallery, London (2018), A Road Not Taken, Marylebone Crypt Gallery, London (2018), Paint North, Ladybeck Space, Leeds (2018), Diagramming Caravaggio and Other Baroque Facades (solo) at APT Gallery, London (2017), Creekside 11 curated by Mali Morris RA at Zillah Bell Gallery, Thirsk (2017). 

 

Published essays include Thumb/Rock (on the work of Eileen Agar) (ArtHouse1 catalogue essay, 2018), ‘The Façade and the Picture Plane’ in the Journal of Contemporary Painting (2017), catalogue essay ‘Hidden (Cache)’ in Pages (Wild Pansy Press, 2014) and ‘Painting and the Metaphor of Discourse’ in Painting with Architecture in Mind(Bath Spa University Press, 2012). In addition to published writing Catherine Ferguson has presented numerous academic papers at conferences internationally.
