Scholarly biography

Lis Bundock is a principal lecturer in education, specialising in teaching related to addressing inequalities in education. Lis has a strong interest in equity and diversity, in particular LGBTQ+ education and race and ethnicity. She is the Course Leader of the Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship (PGTA) and School Direct Salaried (SDS) routes into teaching. Lis is also a Co-Academic Subject Lead for Secondary, FET and Employment Based Routes in teaching.

Lis teaches across a range of courses including the PGTA, School Direct Salaried, the Primary and Secondary PGCEs and the BA Primary route. Lis also supervises on the MA Education Mauritius programme.

Lis won the Tutor/Trainer of the Year award 2021 at the Brighton and Hove Apprenticeship Graduation Ceremony 2021.

Research interests

Lis Bundock's research interests focus on the experiences of LGBTQ+ trainee teachers and teachers in Higher Education and school contexts. Lis also has an interest in anti-racist education and is currently engaged in a research study focused on exploring 'Exploring race and ethnicity with students in UK universities'.

Lis has just completed Stage 1 of an EdD entitled 'The (im)possible context: What are the lived experiences of gender diverse teachers working within four UK schools?'

In 2017 she completed an MA in Education that focussed on ‘Becoming a teacher and being LGBT: negotiating the heteronormative in primary school contexts’.
