Personal profile

Supervisory Interests

Auréliane's supervisory interests broadly encompass family law and issues related to domestic abuse, abortion, and criminal legal practice. She is especially interested in supervising research and dissertations concerning the development of family law and criminal law, as well as the vital role of pro-bono Legal Clinics in access to justice, the rule of law, and student employability. She is also keen on exploring contemporary issues related to legal practice and education.

Approach to teaching

My approach to teaching law combines rigorous academic instruction with immersive practical experience. As Director of the Brighton Legal Clinic, I integrate real-world casework into the curriculum, enabling students to apply legal theory in live-client settings. This experiential learning is complemented by my leadership of mooting and advocacy extra-curricular activities, which sharpen students' analytical thinking, public speaking, and courtroom skills. Through this practice-based model, students gain confidence, professionalism, and a deeper understanding of the law in action—preparing them not only for exams, but for effective legal practice.

Knowledge exchange

As Director of the Brighton Legal Clinic, and through my leadership in mooting and advocacy subjects, I actively promote knowledge exchange between academia, students, and the legal profession. The clinic serves as a dynamic platform where students engage with real clients and legal issues, facilitating the transfer of legal knowledge into practice while also drawing insights from community needs and professional expertise. Through mooting and advocacy activities, students collaborate with peers, practitioners, and judges, creating a rich environment of shared learning. This reciprocal exchange enhances legal education, supports local communities, and fosters a culture of reflective practice and continuous professional development.
