Research interests

Marisol is a part-time doctoral researcher at the University of Brighton. Her Ph.D. research project will use a co-productive approach to explore school engagement from the perspective of parents/carers who face socio-economic challenges. Mixed methods of collaborative inquiry and focus group discussions will be used to enhance research credibility.

Scholarly biography

Marisol holds two first class degrees with honours: one in diplomatic studies from International University (Austria) and in early years teaching from Kingston University (UK).  The former was a fully funded studentship where she received several awards for her academic achievements. Marisol holds a postgraduate qualification in child centred interprofessional practice from Kingston University (London).  She completed the early years professional status, and has 10 years of leadership experience in early years. She has held a variety of roles in early years settings and primary schools in Austria and UK. Marisol’s particular areas of expertise include child development, supporting bilingual children, leadership and management. Marisol is also an experienced early years inspector.  She is a volunteer at Boingboing -Resilience Research and Practice (www.boingboing.org.uk).  

Approach to teaching

Over the years, Marisol mentored many early years candidates to help them complete their qualifications successfully. She is currently supporting the improvement team in East Sussex to support early years staff and parents in the county.
