Personal profile

Research interests

My current research interest is transformative storytelling in one transnational family - contesting populist bordered notions of identity whilst navigating shifting socio-political contexts. Adopting an autoethnographic approach, combined with oral histories and narrative inquiry, I aim to create a digital oral history collection to be housed with the British Library Sound archive that documents alternative narratives, contesting prevailing nationalist narratives in the UK, France and the US.

Scholarly biography

I am a mentor for undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Brighton and worked as co-researcher on widening participation research, in SASS. My previous research background was in youth and public mental health. I'm a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a PGR within the School of Humanities.

In my previous role as National development manager, Youth Access, for youth mental health and young people's counselling services across the UK, I authored/co-authored 10 publications and was winner of the International British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy Best newly qualified research award (2004) for the Breaking down the Barriers research on widening access to youth appropriate mental health services and interventions.

The Breaking down the Barriers research was a three year project funded by the department of health. The research resulted in three award winning publications which aimed to raise awareness of the mental health needs of 16-25s and made a series of recommendations to policy makers, central and local government on expanding and improving provision and interventions in a number of key areas.
