Angela Glynn

My current research interests are focused around professional values and behaviours, particularly in the health and social care setting. I have an interest in Fitness to Practice for students and qualified health professionals. I am also continuing to develop my work in the area of Compassion, exploring how healthcare students experience this whilst on practice placement.

This area of professional values and behaviours also informs my interest in pedagogic research as we consider how aspects such as compassion can be embedded and nurtured through the curriculum and how the student experience impacts on the development of the student as a professional.

I would be very interested to work with students exploring aspects of professional values and behaviours, in particular compassion and fitness to practice. I would like to work with students researching how academic and placement based experience influences the development of the student as a health professional, considering aspects such as communities of practice and professional identity.

Dr Glynn qualified as Physiotherapist in 1991 and specialised in the area of respiratory care. She gained her PhD from Imperial College, University of London in 2004 in the subject area of Pulmonary Rehabilitation in people with Obstructive and Restrictive pulmonary disorders.

Having returned to full time clinical work as lead Physiotherapist for Burns and Plastic Surgery she then joined the University of Brighton as a Lecturer Practitioner in 2002 and took a full time post in 2003. Her main teaching areas are exercise therapy, exercise physiology, cardiorespiratory physiotherapy and professional values & behaviours.

She is currently Deputy Head of School of the School of Health Sciences, with responsibility for Quality Assurance & Enhancement; this involves working with a range of Professional, Statutory and Regulatory bodies, such as HCPC, NMC and Ofsted. This role draws on a range of curriculum development expertise, in particular recently the development of Apprenticeships in the University. She is deputy Chair of the University Apprenticeship Approval Panel.

Dr Glynn has a particular interest in Fitness to Practice and has contributed to the review of the Appeals process in the University.
