Research interests

My research is in the area of the representation of knowledge, and the use of the web and digital technologies to make research outputs more transparent and reusable. My approach is influenced by science and technology studies and the insights it has given into the construction of knowledge claims. Focusing on the field of cultural heritage and archaeology in particular, my research considers how cultural heritage representations can cope with variations in certainty and support different interpretative narratives and knowledge perspectives.
I'm using my background in software design and development to study how practical web tools can help with the sharing of research processes and assumptions, with the goal of making published outcomes more reinterpretable and reusable. I aim to release open-source software tools as part of my research.
This subject area has strong connections with the open scholarship movement, and I am interested in the relevance of the reproducibility agenda in science research for non-scientific contexts.

My PhD research is funded by the David Arnold Scholarship.
