Trust in Motion

Activity: EventsWorkshop

Description

On 4 July 2025, Dr Chantal Frindall and Dr Isilay McQuade Taban delivered a workshop, "Trust in Motion," for the Hummingbird Project, a Brighton-based NGO that supports displaced persons. The workshop creatively applied trust theory to practice by exploring its dimensions through movement, craft work, and experiential learning techniques.

The creative components were led by Vincent Dance Theatre, a Brighton-based collective with extensive experience working with vulnerable women. The imaginative legal exchange was framed through the emerging idea of a Human Rights Hub and delivered in two parts. First, a knowledge exchange facilitated by Level 6 students directly addressed the Hummingbird Group’s interest in asylum, refugee status, and human rights protections in the UK. Second, Chantal and Isilay guided participants through the case of Pretty v UK using embodied learning techniques, enabling participants to explore its individual and public dimensions of trust interactively.

Future work aims to deepen the analysis of trust theory by applying it to concrete situations, thereby recommending policies and reforms that foster trust and support the integration of refugee communities.
