Activity: External talk or presentationInvited talk

Description

An invited talk, to accompany the 2025-25 Pera Museum exhibition, Feelings in Common: Works from the British Council Collection, curated by Ulya Soley.

For nine decades, across more than 100 countries, the British Council has utilised British art for its international cultural relations mission. The British Council Collection now comprises nearly 9000 modern and contemporary artworks, and exhibitions based on its holdings travel widely. But what does British art communicate as it journeys worldwide? And how is cultural exchange enacted through exhibitions? Drawing on fascinating and surprising global examples from the 1930s to the present, this talk examines the challenges and opportunities that can occur when using modern and contemporary art exhibitions for international engagement and dialogue.
