Screening and Panel Discussion: Small Boats – The Border Conundrum (Refugee Week 2025)

Activity: EventsOutreach and Public Engagement

Description

This public engagement event featured the screening of Small Boats: The Border Conundrum, a research-led documentary co-produced by Dr Anne Daguerre (University of Brighton) and filmmaker Nick Lazar (Vivify Productions). Rather than focusing directly on refugees, the film explores how UK and French media, politics, and civil society actors frame small boat crossings in the English Channel.

Held as part of Refugee Week, the event included a live panel discussion with the filmmakers and researchers Dr Sophie Watt and Dr Stefan Speckesser. Moderated by Manuel Koranteng (University of Brighton), the session invited critical reflection on borders, narratives, and the silences in migration discourse.

The event was free and open to the public.
