Ran a workshop (Salty) at the RGS conference for a group of 10 attendees.In 2024, members of the Salt Art Research Network held a workshop in Venice which invited participants to take place in activities with an about salt, including a performance walk around the city collecting water to evaporate; a workshop exploring changing material states using postcards of the city; an activity ‘salting’ objects brought by participants; and a facilitated discussion about the meaning and symbolism of salt in relation to its histories, landscapes and to climate change.
For the RGS, we held a workshop which took forward elements of these creative methodologies through practice-based activities, and a discussion in response to a series of prompts designed by curator Sophie J Williamson, inviting conference members to take part. The workshop tested artistic practice-based approaches to thinking through salt about a range of contemporary concerns, and ask questions about how art can offer other forms of knowing.
