The aim of this activity is to generate interest in the theories and practices of Meditation and Mindfulness, particularly as they may be applied to Arts practice and Education. We intend to present them as accessible and easily acquired lifestyle habits not necessarily requiring adherence to mystical beliefs, as practiced by the likes of David Lynch, Herbie Hancock and Clint Eastwood (!) Aside from the benefits for artistic practice, there is a wealth of research suggesting that meditation can increase resilience, reduce anxiety and help combat addictive habits. The event will feature talks, workshops and videos presented by members of staff and external guests, sharing their experience and knowledge of meditation. It will be conducted in a relaxed and informal air and we expect some laughter alongside the chanting. Aside from these led-sessions there will be plenty of opportunity for meeting and conversing, and we hope the event promotes collaborations on the application of meditation practices within arts practice and education. Following the event we aim to provide opportunities for group meditation at the University of Brighton.
