In 2002 Dr Neil Maxwell and Dr Mark Hayes, then at Eastbourne College of Arts & Technology, embarked upon an expedition to climb Kilimanjaro and understand better how different individuals cope at altitude. On the 1st August 2002, Neil and Mark were the first individuals to ascend Kili at about 5 am in the morning seeing the sunrise at 5,895 m.
