Description

This event was held at the Department of Art History as Cultural History led by Bénédicte Savoy at Technische Universität Berlin. It was convened by Claire Wintle (UoB) and Andrea Meyer (TUB) as part of the 'Dislocation' series organised by Fogha Mc and Jeanne-Ange Wagne. It explored political and cultural mobilisation in museums over time. Onyekachi Wambu, co-Executive Director of the African Foundation for Development (AFFORD), Dr. Valika Smeulders, Head of the History Department, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, and Claire Wintle, University of Brighton, considered the past, present and future of resistance to imperial cultures of collecting and display. They explored, and critiqued how protest, engagement and advocacy has operated from within and beyond the museum, providing and reimagining models for future practice.
