Description
A series of five artists' talks, and an interdisciplinary dialogue coinciding with the exhibition, Delve. Talks were delivered by 5 of the six artists whose artworks featured in the exhibition, each one (see participants' names below) illuminating their practice in relation to the themes of the exhibition: space and it's relation to the fantastic in a contemporary art context. The talks also discussed and demonstrated the value of artist-led curation, as argued by lead curator, Lucia King who is also founder of the transnational artist-led network, VisionMix that operates between three continents. The talks generated and shared knowledge around the comparative value of independent curatorial initiatives in relation to the commercial gallery (and Biennial) systems of production and dissemination. Audiences of students and external participants benefitted from insights into the motivations and methods behind the artistic practices in the exhibition, as well as the wider expertise delivered around curatorial systems
A separate talk with two interlocutors provided an exhibition closing event (2 days before closing on 10/10/24) This was keynote speaker, Prof. Patricia García in conversation with curator/artist, Lucia King. García is the author of 'Space & the Postmodern Fantastic in Contemporary Literature' (2015, Routledge); a seminal text informing the curation of the exhibition conceptually. The talk took the form of an interdisciplinary (Literature-Fine Art) exploration of the relationship between space and the fantastic, looking closely at these concepts translated into the visual and material languages used in the artworks of the exhibition, Delve
